AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH It was amazing.
So I left uni at like 4.30, went downtown to buy a camera and lip balm, then walked up Queen Street to the venue. I got there maybe just after 5, and the queue was already halfway up the block, so i joined it. Ended up standing between a group of girls down from Warkworth and some up from Cambridge. They were maybe the average age of 14. There were SO MANY teenagers there. All emo'ed up with some of them wearing more eyeliner than i have in my entire life, all at once. They all dress to look 'different', but end up looking the same. But all the same it was a pretty friendly line, not much pushing etc, at least until they opened the doors at 7.30. Got a bit squished then, security guard pinched my water bottle, so i had to shell out $4 for a new one (extortion i tell you). Bought a shirt for $40 and put it on straightaway and found a nice little spot near the back of the room leaning on a half-wall thingy.
48 May started playing at 8, I knew two of their songs, but only knew the full lyrics to one of them so i sang along to that. The rest of their songs were from their new album, which i might get because i did like the songs.Highlights of that include the singer (i forget his name), putting on a g-string that someone had thrown at him. They finished at 8.30, and then they set up for Panic til 9. During that time i was getting a bit tired, and i saw one of my friends from primary school, but i don't think he saw me haha. He was there with his girlfriend. It was nice to see that i wasn't the only person over the age of 20 who was there not as a chaperone for their kids.
When Panic! started i thought i'd stay where i was, because i could see the whole stage, but that lasted like 30 seconds. I had to get closer. I didn't end up getting that close, but i did get good views of Brendon and Jon. Don't ask me what the set-list was, i know they started with The only difference and ended with build god, then we'll talk, and they played tonight tonight and karma police. It was awesome. I sang my heart out, tried to record some on my phone (which didn't turn out too good) and took lots of photos with my disposable camera, but we'll have to see if they turn out.
At one point an inflated condom that was floating around the crowd ended up on stage and Ryan picked it up and threw it to the back of the stage. hehehehehehe. Brendon was wearing a dark jacket and cream shirt, Ryan had the Rose vest on, Spencer had a brown shirt on and Jon had a black jacket and shirt with a purple tie on i think.
Near the end Brendon said New Zealand was his new favourite place, but then i suppose he say's that to every crowd. The scream when he said he loved us was deafening, and then when he introduced the rest of the band. It was totally awesome, and I think quite a good first concert really, lots of parents and kids and it felt quite safe, you know? So I didn't freak out at all, didn't get too claustrophobic, it was really good.
When they were halfway through the last song just after 10pm i started moving towards the exit, and i waited for them to leave the stage before i ducked outside to get into the first taxi. I managed to get one that's from a West Auckland company, so he knew where i wanted to go, and only charged me $28, which is good because Dad said it would cost like $45. I got home at like 20 past 10, my oh-so-helpful parents (who i had texted twice during the night with no reply either time) had left the front door light off (they turn it on when my brother comes home late of course), so it took me a little while to get my key and get inside. Then i talked to my parents for a little while (they were in their bedroom, in their bed, but still in their day clothes... odd), had a shower and got into bed at like 10.40. I didn't end up getting to sleep til like 12, my ears were still ringing.
In conclusion, best night ever.
And now i'm amped for sunday. ToC, here I come!
